Church is a concepted niche bar that serves as a space for music and harbors a specific subculture and demographic. Its primary audience is aged 21-35 that inhabits and cultivates an alternative underground scene. Church was concepted with a focus on Absinthe concoctions, craft cocktails, and affordable beer. The space is a tribute to musical legends, intricately weaving symbols from the occult and alchemic semiotics to craft an atmosphere that is both refined and deeply meaningful.
Church is a tongue in cheek name for a bar that people would ritually go to every week to worship their own brand of music. Symbols can be special and sacred; creating one for Church that did not include the name whatsoever felt very appropriate. Secretive and mysterious, this logo is meant to be used as graffiti, painted on jackets, printed on patches, and used as a symbol of the underground culture it represents.
Felltype RomanSC was chosen for its historical forms that have unique flaws that add an artifactual essence to the menu. Bellows was chosen to contrast the Roman typeface which also has a textured appearance that has a hand-done feel to it but with simpler characteristics.
The drink icons are heavily inspired by an in-depth study of the occult & alchemic semiotics. Each mono line illustration has a specific drink it is paired with in the corresponding type of cocktail glass. Studying the menu feels as if you’re reading a secret sigil to call on the spirits.
